With the divorce rate hovering around fifty percent, one could wonder if anybody is ever going to stay together anymore. 1. I’m making so much money – this is really great!

Well that’s good news that you’re really making the bucks, but at who’s expense? Are you working longer and longer hours to make that kind of money? Have you gone from five days a week to six days a week, or maybe the full seven! It’s wonderful to have financial security, but unfortunately, it’s our partners who suffer.

Set your priorities. Your wife or husband is your priority in this short life. Leaving them alone more creates a sense of “distancing” sort of like the “out of sight out of mind.” Loneliness is a terrible thing for someone to struggle with. Try to make certain that it’s not you creating the loneliness.

2. I have a few secrets that I don’t want you to know.

Probably one of the best signs that the relationship is becoming troubled is the fact that we start keeping secrets from each other. It could be secrets about money, friends we have, things we have done, friends of the opposite sex, and our feelings in general. Secrets are bad for a marriage or any relationship in general. What it is really telling the other person is that, “I love you, but I really don’t trust you enough to tell you my inner most secrets”.

How to destroy your marriage is easy when the “trust” part of a relationship goes down the drain with the bathwater. It is then that the marriage usually follows. If we really can’t trust our soul mate, whom can we trust? Everybody needs somebody to trust, and that first priority should go to our partners.

3. I love you – but I really hate your family.

Well guess what. When you seriously hook-up with your partner it’s not just him or her you’re marrying. It’s the “whole” family. These people are going to be a “big” part of your life, like it or not.

True, if you get into a marriage where your partner despises the behavior of his or her family and wants nothing at all to do with them, then it will make your life easier as well. But if you’re in a marriage where your partner still has love for their family, you should try really hard to show some love as well. If there is a conflict between you and them, do all you can to resolve it.

Marriages can be easily destroyed. If we aren’t careful in our own actions and behaviors, we could help speed up the whole process in a matter of months at times. Put in some effort to make your marriage better then it has ever been. It might take some sacrifice, but you could do it if you put your mind to it.
